About Us
Cheddar First Preschool is an integral part of Cheddar First School, providing families with a supportive service dedicated to providing high quality care and promoting learning for all children. A team of experienced and well-qualified staff build excellent relationships with our children and their families so we know our children are happy and secure and parents feel confident and reassured. We are proud members of the Wessex Learning Trust, offering a seamless education journey.
Located in the grounds of Cheddar First School, our Preschool provides a warm, welcoming and inclusive environment for all children aged 0-4 years old. Our purpose built building has three different rooms offering environments structured to support age appropriate development: Chicks (0-2 year olds), Fledglings (2-3 year olds) and Earlybirds (3-4 year olds). Our stimulating play based approach permeates inside and outside learning opportunities. Our outside learning environment includes direct access to the forest school, school fields and pond area. All children attending our Preschool have an on-line learning journal where parents are regularly informed about their child’s care, learning and progress. Parents are able to contribute to this profile to build up a full picture of each unique child and their development.
As part of Cheddar First School, we work very closely with the Reception class teachers. This enables the children to become familiar with the adults in school and to ensure a smooth and seamless transition when they begin their Reception year.

My daughter has attended the baby room since she was 9 months old. I have been blown away by the love, time and care spent on Ferne (and me!). As a parent, I found the transition very hard but I was supported by the fantastic staff and kept updated constantly on tapestry. My daughter is greeted by her keyworker, every morning and that consistency is something I've never experienced at other nurseries. The team always have time to update me at the end of the day- no matter how busy they are. I appreciate the weekly learning overviews as well as the end of the week round ups with pictures. The staff clearly work very hard to ensure the children have a creative, fun experience. Thank you.

Both of our children started in the baby room from when it first started taking in the younger children a couple of years ago. I had a 7 month old and a 21 month old in the room together. I felt the children were in safe, warm hands from the very beginning. We were updated regularly via tapestry of their toileting and nap schedules as well as any observations and photographs.
The staff are all very personable and professional. Communication and feedback has always been very good and if we had any issues they were always listened to and resolved very quickly.
The safeguarding measures they have in place are robust and I’ve never had any concern over this.
I love how the children progress through the preschool into each room and how all staff are familiar to the children.
The children have learnt through play, exploration, story telling, songs and much more. They follow a routine each day which really sets the children up well. I have loved seeing the amazing things they get up to in the weekly newsletter and highlights emails.

We couldn’t have wished for a better nursery for our son. The facilities are excellent, with lots of green outdoor space, its very safe and engaging for the little ones. The staff have always been very supportive, from the induction we had when he started, to the kind, personal updates at the end of the day and on Tapestry. They do lots of diverse activities which have helped my sons development. He has never once complained about going to nursery and he clearly has a strong connection to the staff. It means a lot to have a place where you feel so at ease to send your child. Thanks Cheddar Pre-School!
