Cheddar First School was first established in 1845 and has a long a history of educational success and partnerships within the village.
The present school building was opened in 2002 and includes part of the historic Victorian building. The school buildings are modern, bright and airy and provide a pleasant and stimulating environment in which children can work and play. Nine purpose-built classrooms are enhanced by an ICT suite, library area, learning support room, therapy room, nurture room and large school hall. A studio space located in The Valley Children’s Centre provides an additional space for learning.
The school has a large field at the rear of the building. A pond teeming with wildlife, gardening areas tended by the children and an established ‘forest school’ area are some of the features to be found within the school grounds.
There are currently 253 pupils on roll, organised into 9 class groups. Teachers work collaboratively to plan, deliver and assess the curriculum. An experienced group of nursery nurses and teaching assistants work closely with the teachers. We are an inclusive school catering for children with a variety of learning needs. The staff team have a wide range of experience and expertise and are committed to providing high quality educational experiences for their pupils.
